Artist Commission: Invasive Species

Deadline to Apply: 3rd October 2025
Location: Aros Park, Tobermory, Isle of Mull

An Tobar and Mull Theatre are delighted to announce a new commission opportunity for artists based in Scotland.

Invasive Species is an immersive audio walk through the breathtaking landscapes of Aros Park. The project brings together sound, storytelling, sculpture, and community voices, inviting audiences to reflect on our relationship with nature, belonging, and change.

As visitors move through the park following an audio description created by Fast Familiar, a group of recovering theatre makers and artists from different creative and academic backgrounds, and innovative games collective Play:Vienna, they will encounter a series of artistic way-markers to guide and enhance their journey — and that’s where you come in.

What We’re Looking For

We are seeking Scottish-based artists (individuals or collectives) to design and create 6–7 sculptural way-markers that will be placed along the route. In addition, there is the option to propose smaller supplementary markers and seating elements for resting and reflection.

Your work should:

  • Use natural or sustainable materials (wood, stone, ceramic, or similar).

  • Be sensitive to the ecology and beauty of Aros Park while remaining functional and visible.

  • Be weather-resistant and suitable for long-term outdoor installation.

We welcome applications from sculptors, ceramicists, woodworkers, environmental artists, and interdisciplinary practitioners with an interest in place-based practice and participatory methods.

Why Apply?

  • Collaborate with an inspiring creative team and local community.

  • See your work integrated into a unique public art trail that combines sound, sculpture, and storytelling.

  • Receive an artist fee and materials budget.

  • Contribute to a nationally significant environmental arts project rooted in the culture and community of Mull.

Key Dates

  • Application deadline: 3rd October 2025

  • Installation of way-markers: April 2026

  • Public launch: 7th May 2026

How to Apply

Please send us:

  • A statement of interest and artwork proposal (max 500 words)

  • Examples of your previous work (images, website, or portfolio)

  • A short CV or artist bio highlighting relevant experience

Applications should be submitted by Friday 3rd October 2025 to:
