100 Years of the Mull Geological Map

  • An Tobar Argyll Terrace Tobermory, Isle of Mull United Kingdom (map)

An informal drop-in from 2pm in the afternoon with a detailed presentation from 7pm in the evening.

The geological map of central Mull was published by the Geological Survey, Scotland in 1923, and instantly became a classic of geological science, map-making, art and printing.

This half-day event, delivered by Dr John Faithfull and James Westland as part of the Scottish Geology Festival 2023, will celebrate this beautiful map, and tell some of the stories about the incredible work that produced it, via exhibits, short talks, and an evening lecture.

No geological knowledge is required!

“... It may be safely vouchsafed that Mull includes the most complicated igneous centre as yet accorded detailed examination anywhere in the world”

This An Tobar event will be followed by a series of other small events in the following weeks, at other venues across Mull and Iona.
