This unique film, made by Filmmaker Alasdair Satchel brings together the voices and memories of Mull, weaving an evocative portrait of the island during wartime and the years that followed VE Day. Archival footage and photographs are interlaced with new images created in our workshop, grounding the history in both past and present.
At the heart of the project are the voices of community members themselves. Their testimonies bring to life the everyday realities of post and wartime Mull: the challenges of rationing, the impact of separation, the moments of joy and solidarity that carried people through. These stories are not just remembered, but reimagined for a new generation, creating a living archive that honours the island’s shared national heritage.
The screening will be accompanied by a live performance of an original soundtrack, composed and produced by children from our community. Their music, inspired by the voices they have listened to, offers a powerful and moving response that bridges generations in our community.
All are invited to come celebrate our community. Free but please book in advance.
