Miguel Girao (Dalnaha, Croggan)
Experience the music of Miguel Girão, one of the most technically gifted and expressive guitarists in Scotland, in the intimate setting of a Mull home. Miguel’s playing is exploratory, finely detailed, and deeply rooted in the living tradition of Scottish music—perfect for close listening on a winter evening.
Originally from the Portuguese Midlands and now based in Glasgow, Miguel brings a distinctive voice to contemporary Scottish trad. His music moves fluidly between accompaniment and solo performance, drawing on classical, jazz, and modern influences while remaining grounded in tradition. As Innes White describes, Miguel is “one of the most technically gifted and expressive guitarists in Scotland,” while Martin Green (Lau) calls him “a new and genuinely unique voice in contemporary Scottish trad. You really haven’t heard this before.”
Miguel was a finalist in the BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year 2025, and is a founding member of the Capstan Quartet, an exciting new project blending traditional Scottish melodies with contemporary aesthetics. He also performs extensively with pianist Amy Laurenson, both as a duo and with her quartet, and has collaborated with artists including Jocelyn Petit & Ellen Gira, Eve Simpson, and Glasgow-based band Tern.
Miguel’s home gigs are more than concerts—they’re moments of shared discovery. Music unfolds with sensitivity and daring, shifting between intricate textures, rhythmic drive, and reflective stillness. These performances invite listeners to lean in, follow the twists and turns of the guitar, and experience the space between tradition and innovation together.
Come and gather around the guitar for an intimate evening of curiosity, connection, and beautifully crafted music.
