Welcome to the third Tobermory Book Festival
from Friday 28th to Sunday 30th October 2022

Curated by Duncan and Sally Swinbanks of Tackle and Books, Hugh Andrew of Birlinn Ltd and Lesley Graham, Hugh and Jane Stuart Smith of Ardtornish and Frances Sutton of Garron Communications, the festival showcases Tobermory as the Book Capital of the Hebrides!

Spend a few days in Scotland’s most beautiful small town, enjoying superb speakers and eating the best food the Highlands can offer.

 

FRIDAY 28 OCTOBER

OPENING LUNCH WITH THE
SEAFOOD SHACK

Enjoy the recipes and company of Kirsty Scobie and Fenella Renwick authors of the bestselling The Seafood Shack, Ullapool’s go to place for the best of West Highland seafood.

PUTTING THE TEA IN BRITAIN
WITH LES WILSON 2.00pm–3.30pm | An Tobar
Have a cup of tea, hear about the extraordinary story of Scotland’s tea pioneers and Mull’s very own tea plantation at Craignure with Les Wilson, Putting the Tea in Britain.

MULL AND ITS WILDLIFE

The authors of the definitive book take us through the extraordinary story of Mull and its natural history.

A TASTE OF THE HIGHLANDS

Dinner and talk from Ghillie Bhaşan featuring recipes and stories from A Taste of the Highlands, a showcase of Scotland’s wonderful larder and food heroes.

SATURDAY 29 OCTOBER

REWILDING AND REGENERATION 10.30am–11.30am | Western Isles Hotel
Meet Patrick Laurie Native and Andrew Painting Regeneration to talk about rewilding from the perspectives of a Galloway cattle farm and a great Highland Estate, Mar Lodge. Two stories of hope for our times.

Native was shortlisted for the Wainwright Prize in 2020.

Who really was responsible for the sinking of the Tobermory Galleon? Dr Timothy Ashby unravels for the first time the real story in Elizabethan Secret Agent: The Untold Story of William Ashby.

Diana Ambache, author of The Soul of the Journey, will talk about the extraordinary talents and relationship of Felix and Fanny Mendelssohn and tell the story of Mendelssohns famous trip to Scotland which led to the Hebrides Overture and the Scottish Symphony.

THE HIGHLAND GRAND TOUR
12.30pm–2.00pm | The Hebridean Lodge

Lunch with Professor Nigel Leask and the story of the Grand Tour and the origins of the romantic Highlands with particular reference to Mull in Old Ways, New Roads.
