Tracing Marks of Wear - Textile workshop with Rhona Jack

Join artist Rhona Jack for a textile workshop exploring human marks on our natural and built environment. Using second hand materials, elements of printmaking and craft techniques centred around repair and mending, you will create textile artworks which can be used as decorative or functional objects.

The day will begin with a walk around Tobermory, taking time to notice marks of human erosion on the buildings and land around us. We’ll take rubbings of textures we find using fabric crayons, which can then be transferred onto fabrics upon our return to An Tobar. These will then be stitched together with reclaimed fabrics, using quilting and darning techniques.

The session will encourage you to look differently at your environment, thinking about the traces of ourselves that we leave behind on the things that we touch.

All materials provided, but you are welcome to bring along fabrics or threads of your own if there’s something specific you would like to include in your artwork - perhaps there is an old piece of clothing or fabric that used to mean a lot to you but you no longer wear?

Tickets £20
